Not too sugar sweet and a nice blend of characters. Being a cozy, it's definitely a feel good story that doesn't break too many rules, but it's a cut above most of the paranormal themed I've read.

The club is comprised of witches from different backgrounds, some more on the light side than others, which makes it interesting and not too generic. The book keeps it simple since she's an amateur trying the magic on for size, but I love how the aunt puts in herbs and various spells into the baked goods in terms of what a customer needs or wants. Once there she finds out that she is in a long line of "hedgewitchery" and that the local book club is actually a type of coven of unique witches.īesides being charmed by the series detailed deserts (and the generous recipes at the back), it's a interesting with the magic. The main character has returned to a small town to escape her current life and start a anew in a bakery business with her aunt and uncle. A solid introduction to Katie and the new, interesting life she’s living, this book sets the stage for solving even more mysteries alongside our main character.“I've seen some pretty strange things in my life, and more of them make me think magic is possible than not.”īrownies and Broomsticks was just what I was looking for - finally a paranormal themed cozy mystery that isn't all fault fluff and unrealistic rigidity. As the first book of a currently 10 book series, if this hits the mark for you, you’ll have plenty of similar stories to dive right into. Perhaps a bit too cozy for me personally, this is a great one to check out if you like cozy mysteries, food, magic, and romance. It really feels like Katie is just living her life and happens to solve a murder along the way. For the fact that there is a real murder with someone unknown responsible and Ben the most likely to take the fall for the crime, this one’s not very intense at all. With two possibilities for romance, Katie keeps things more lighthearted while she works to find the true murderer and clear her uncle Ben’s name. The magic is much more realistic than the fantastical magic I’m more familiar with in fantasy stories. Katie settles into her new home and learns about the more magical side of Lucy’s life. When Ben is suspected of murdering a customer, Katie and Lucy work their magic to find the real killer.Ī cozy mystery, this book keeps the stakes relatively low.

Katie Lightfoot came to Savannah to help her aunt Lucy and uncle Ben open a bakery.
